Promoting Women’s Orthopaedic Health
Williamson, NY - Wayne Regional
Orthopaedics, PLLC, (WRO) is launching a Women’s Orthopaedic Health
initiative. The first initiative is to educate the community about
osteoporosis, its treatment, bone health, and lifestyle modifications.
Through WRO, patients will have at their disposal the latest in bone
density measurement. The Williamson-based orthopaedic practice is equipped
with a DEXA scanner for bone mineral density measurement. The DEXA scanner
is operated by Teresa Johnson, one of twenty-nine licensed densitometrists
in the state. After each scan, each patient is offered a teaching session
to review the results of the DEXA scan and appropriate treatment
strategies.
To assist in the promotion of
Women’s Orthopaedic Heath initiative, WRO welcomes Nikki Smith, RPA-C.
A recent addition to the practice, Mrs Smith is a physician assistant
certified and registered by the New York State Education Department. Born
and raised in Sodus, NY, Nikki graduated from Onondaga Community College
in 1998 with a certificate in Surgical Technology. She went on to
Rochester Institute of Technology and received a Bachelors of Science
degree in Biology. In 2003, Nikki completed her Physician Assistant degree
at LeMoyne College, Syracuse, NY. In addition to spearheading the women’s
health initiative, and under the supervision of WRO physicians, she
provides general orthopaedic office and hospital based care, perioperative
education and screening, and assists with surgical procedures.
It is estimated that half of women
in the US have thinned bones, and if you believe that you are at risk,
please visit the practice web site at
www.wrortho.com and take the Osteoporosis Risk Survey. Alternatively,
call the office at (315) 589 2800 to discuss bone mineral density
measurement with the staff.
